WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

How are We?

Indus Society for Human and Environmental Development is a non-profit corporation and shall be operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, or the corresponding section of any future Federal tax code.

Indus Society for Human and Environmental Development Corporation’s purpose is to address, educate, coordinate, and provide aid and relief to human and environmental development causes with special focus to rural communities in Pakistan.

We provide education by giving free lectures and slideshows, in schools, libraries, and other public venues as well as utilizing social media channels and the corporation’s website to provide facts, statistics, and other related data on humanitarian crises, current efforts, and potential solutions to tackle education, health, income, and social justice issues in rural communities of Pakistan.

History About Us

Our programs include sending out ambassadors to raise social consciousness about the cause on a local and global level, and to hold fundraising events in order to provide financial and technological assistance to communities in need, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or religion.

To maximize our impact on current efforts, we may seek to collaborate with other non-profit organizations which fall under the 501(c)(3) section of the internal revenue code and are operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes.

At times, per the discretion of the board of directors, we may provide internships or volunteer opportunities which shall provide opportunities for involvement in said activities and programs in order to have a greater impact for change.

PRESIDENT/CHAIRMAN BOARD

Sohail Ansari is co-founder and president of the Indus Society for Human and Environmental Development (iSHED). He is also working as a Program Manager at Time Warner Cable where in his 15 year carrier he has been two time recipient of the Mission Value and Performance (MVP) Award. He holds Bachelors of Engineering degree from the NED University, Karachi, Pakistan and Master of Science in Engineering Management degree from Milwaukee School of Engineering, Milwaukee, USA. He has been an active member of the Sindhi Diaspora in North America and volunteered his services for the growth and betterment of the rural communities in Pakistan through many platforms. He has been serving as Board of Directors for iSHED since 2014. He can be reached by his email address.

DR. VASDEV LOHANO
GENERAL SECRETARY

Dr. Lohano is a graduate from Sindh Medical College, University of Karachi, Pakistan in 1992. He currently works in New Albany, Indiana and specializes in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism. Dr. Lohano has 23 years of experience as a physician and is affiliated with Clark Memorial Hospital and Floyd Memorial Hospital.He is an active member of Pakistani Physicians community and has served as member of the board on Association of Pakistani Physicians of Kentucky and Indiana (APPKI) for number of years and remained president of the Association between 2014 and 2015. He has been a strong voice for participative community development for rural communities in Pakistan and co-sponsored many initiatives. He has been serving as Board of Directors for iSHED since 2014. JAMAL KHUDAHI
TREASURER

Jamal Khudai has been working in USA since more than 20 years. He has held several positions at Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) in Chicago, Illinois and American Transmission Company (ATC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is a graduate of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, Sindh, Pakistan and completed his Masters of Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. Mr. Khudai loves travels and photography, and is fluent in many languages including Spanish and Indonesian. Coming from a very poor family and working his way through life to accomplish what he has, Mr. Khudai truly values the humanitarian causes for the betterment of the disfranchised and under-served populations. He has been serving on the Board of Directors for iSHED since 2014.

DR. FARAH SALAHUDDIN
BOARD MEMBER

Dr. Farah Salahuddin is a board-certified endocrinologist and internal medicine physician. Dr. Salahuddin has special interest in diabetes, as well as thyroid, pituitary, calcium and metabolic syndrome disorders. She is currently working for the Arora Medical Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA. Dr. Salahuddin has been an active member of Pakistani diaspora and a regular contributor to humanitarian causes from various platforms. She is one of the founding members of iSHED has remain active on its board since 2014.

SUMMEYA ANSARI
BOARD MEMBER

Summeya is co-founder and active board member of the Indus Society for Human and Environmental Development (iSHED). She has been working as Care Giver for children with disabilities for last 7 years in Metro Milwaukee Area. She has a Master of Science in English from University of Sindh, Jamshoro Hyderabad and worked as a high school teacher before moving to USA. Ms. Ansari has been serving as Board of Directors for iSHED since 2014.

ABDUL ALEEM BROHI
BOARD MEMBER

Mr. Brohi is an active member of the Pakistani/Sindhi diaspora living in USA. He has volunteered his services on many forums and is a great champion of the humanitarian causes both in and outside of the country. Currently he is retired from his professional services and lives in greater Washington DC area. Mr. Brohi has been serving as the Board of Directors for iSHED since 2014.

Indus Society for Human and Environmental Development is a Wisconsin non-profit public benefit corporation. The corporation is a public charity and exempt from federal income tax under the United States Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3) effective January 10, 2014. Donors can deduct contributions they make to the organization under IRC Section 170.
 

Exempt Activities Limitation:  Not withstanding any other provision of these Bylaws, no director, officer, employee, member, or representative of this corporation shall take any action or carry on any activity by or on behalf of the corporation not permitted to be taken or carried on by an organization exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as it now exists or may be amended, or by any organization contributions to which are deductible under Section 170(c)(2) of such Code and Regulations as it now exists or may be amended.  No part of the net earnings of the corporation shall inure to the benefit or be distributable to any director, officer, member, or other private person, except that the corporation shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth in the Articles of Incorporation and these Bylaws.
